RODOLPHE DUGUAY 1891-1973
RODOLPHE WAS A PAINTER, ENGRAVER, ILLUSTRATOR AND DESIGNER, BORN IN NICOLET, QUEBEC. HE BEGAN HIS STUDIES WITH THE BROTHERS OF THE CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS OF NICOLET, AND AT THE SEMINARY OF NICOLET FROM 1903-1908. HE LATER SETTLED IN MONTREAL IN SEPTEMBER OF 1908, AND BEGAN HIS FINE ARTS CLASSES AT THE MONUMENT NATIONAL (CONSEIL DES ARTS ET MANUFACTURES) IN FEBRUARY OF 1911 UNTIL MARCH OF 1920. HE ALSO ATTENDED CLASSES AT THE ART ASSOCIATION OF MONTREAL AND WORKED IN THE STUDIO OF THE PAINTER GEORGES DELFOSSE. IN 1918, HE MET SUZOR-COTE AND BEGAN IN HIS STUDIO ON MAY 30, 1919 UNTIL HE DEPARTED FOR PARIS. DURING THIS TIME, HE EXHIBITED AT THE SPRING SALON OF ART ASSOCIATION. AFTER HAVING WORKED ON MORE THAN 40 ORDERS SIGNED BY SUZOR-COTE, HE EMBARKED FOR EUROPE IN THE COMPANY OF PAINTER NARCISSE POIRIER IN SEPTEMBER OF 1920.
HE ENROLLED AT THE ACADEMIE JULIAN, WHERE HE WAS INFLUENCED BY HENRI MORISSET IN PARIS ON OCTOBER 14, 1920. HE REMAINED THERE UNTIL MARCH 10. 1924. HE ALSO ATTENDED THE ACADEMIE DE LA GRANDE CHAUMIERE, ADLER ET COLAROSSI.
DURING THE HOLIDAYS OF 1922 AND 1923, HE TRAVELED TO BRITTANY AND NORMANDY, THERE HE FOUND HIS GREAT FRIEND, OCTAVE BELANGER, ALSO A STUDENT AT ACADEMIE JULIAN, WITH WHOM HE DREW A LARGE NUMBER OF LANDSCAPES AND STREET SCENES IN BELLE-ILE-EN-MER AND PORT LOUISE. HE TRAVELED THROUGH ITALY DURING THE MONTHS OF APRIL, MAY AND JUNE OF 1925, VISITING 14 CITIES. FROM TURIN TO NAPLES, ROME AND ASSISI, PERFORMING SEVERAL STUDIES AND POCHADES.
HE OBTAINED THE FIRST GRANT AWARDED TO A PAINTER BY THE QUEBEC GOVERNMENT IN 1941.
ON HIS RETURN FROM EUROPE IN JUNE OF 1927, HIS FATHER BUILT HIM A WORKSHOP MODELED ON HIS LAST PARISIAN WORKSHOP IN RUE VERCINGETORIX. IN APRIL OF 1929, HE EXHIBITED AT THE SAINT-SULPICE LIBRARY. IN 1935, HE PRESENTED A COLLECTION OF WOODCUTS. HE WORKED UNTIL THE BEGINNING OF THE 1960'S. HE RECIEVED THE ORDER OF CANADA IN 1973 AND DIED THE SAME YEAR. IN HIS ART, HE EXPRESSED A PROFOUND RELIGIOUS MESSAGE BASED ON GOODNESS, INNOCENCE, PURITY AND SUFFERING.

Pickup Saturday Dec 9th 10 to 5 or by appointment on another day. We try to be flexible. 438280 4th Line, Melancthon. We can not ship items larger than Canada Post allowances, ie 66 lbs. All sales are final with no refunds or exchanges possible.
RESERVES: Some items will be sold with a reserve. Consignors are not authorized to bid on their own items nor have someone bid on their behalf. We reserve the right to withdraw any items or bids by the offending consignor.

Invoices will be emailed at the end of the sale. Etransfers must be sent immediately. Pickup is the next day. Purchasers will be responsible for arranging their pickup / delivery / post if our pickup day doesn't work for them. All items shipped will be charged on an individual basis, based on weight and size per Canada Post. We ship at cost.
